The Registrar General’s Department officially launched its modernized web portal, www.rgd.gov.lk, on April 7, 2026, aimed at enhancing public accessibility and streamlining service delivery. This digital platform is designed to provide citizens with a more efficient, transparent, and user-friendly experience when accessing departmental information and services.
The mobile service organized by the Central Zonal Office was held on 2026.01.03 at the Hanguranketha Divisional Secretariat, with the participation of the Registrar General, the District Secretary of Nuwara Eliya, the Divisional Secretary of Hanguranketha, and their staff.
The commencement of duties at the Registrar General's Department for the New Year 2026 was held at the department premises under the patronage of the Registrar General, Mrs. S. Jaladeepan, amidst religious observances conducted by the venerable Maha Sangha.
Mrs. Sasidevi Jaladeepan, assumed duties as the new Registrar General at the Registrar Generals' Department on 2025/08/25. Mrs. Sasidevi Jaladeepan goes down in history as the first female Registrar General of the Registrar Generals' Department, which has a history of over 160 years.
As part of the continuous digital transformation program of the Government of Sri Lanka, the Registrar Generals' Department (RGD) has officialy extended its electronic Birth, Marriage, and Death Registration System (eBMD) to Sri Lankan Foreigh Missions.
The inauguration ceremony for issuing digital National Birth Certificates under the e-Civil Registration program introduced by the Registrar General's Department was held today (24) at the auditorium of the Ratnapura Divisional Secretariat. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. K.G.S. Nishantha, District Secretary/Government Agent of Ratnapura and Additional Registrar General.
