Correction of an Error in General Marriage Certificate
To correct an errorthat occured during the registration of marriage,the parties to the said marriage must submit the relevnt request to a District Court of competent jurisdiction.
Required documents:
- Marriage Certificate
- Documents requested by the Courts
The parties must submit the requst to a District Court of competent jurisdiction through a lawyer.
If it is a clerical error, by notifying the Additional District Registrar of the Divisional Secretariat in the area where the marriage belongs, it can be verified whether the duplicate of the marriage register is correct.
Correction of an Error in a Kandyan Marriage Certificate
The request to correct an error that occurred during the registration of the marriage must be submitted to the Additional District Registrar of the Divisional Secretariat to which the place of marriage registration belongs.

- Marriage Certificate
- An affidavit containing the error that occurred and the correct information
- Other documents required to proof matters
Correction of an Error in a Muslim Marriage Certificate
The request to correct an error that occurred during the registration of the marriage must be submitted to the District Registrar of the Divisional Secretariat to which the place of marriage registration belongs.
Required documents:
- Marriage Certificate
- An affidavit containing the error that occurred and the correct information
- After submitting other documents required to verify the facts, the District Registrar has the authority to issue an order following a formal inquiry.
