 Obtaining a certified copy of a deed

The issuance of certified copies of deeds is carried out by the 50 Land Registries located island-wide. This service can be obtained by submitting an application to the Land Registry to which the relevant notary hands over their duplicate copies.

Office Hours

Weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (Cash counters remain open only until 3:00 p.m.). Offices are not open on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

 Method of Submitting the Requestg

The application must be submitted to the Land Registry where the duplicate copies of the notary who drawn and attested the document are handed over. The application can be submitted in the following manners.

            a. By post

            b. By delivering it to the office in person

            c. Online  ‍(https://online.land.rgd.gov.lk/)

Application

The prescribed printed application must be submitted. The application form number is 'A32(B)'. The application can be downloaded from the website. 'Application A32(B)'

Persons Entitled to Submit the Application

            a. Owner of the property

            b. A representative of an interested party

If the application is submitted by a representative, a letter of authorization must be submitted.

 Fees

The payment of fees can be made in cash or paid to any Bank of Ceylon branch to be credited to Account No. 7041650 of the Registrar General. The bank receipt must be attached and sent.

Obtaining a copy of a specific deed related to a specific land:

  • Fee for one copy of a deed under the normal service - Rs. 600.00
  • Fee for a copy of a deed under the expedited (one-day) service - Rs. 1000.00
